Director - Sue Hiser
Sue Hiser has been the director for the Belleville Community Chorus since its inception in 2006. She comes to the chorus with 28 years of public school teaching experience. Most recently, Sue was the director of choirs at Belleville High School. Sue received her Bachelor of Music Education from Eastern Michigan University, and has attended numerous conducting workshops, studying with such conductors as Jerry Blackstone, Sandra Snow and Rene Clausen.
Sue is happily retired, but stays active in choral music, as an adjudicator for Michigan School Vocal Music Association, and as an instructor and soloist for various church music programs. Sue is happily married to her golf partner, Barry, and has two adult daughters, Katie and Elizabeth.
Accompanist - Dr. Joseph D. Daniel
Joseph D. Daniel, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, is the Director of Music & Organist at First Presbyterian Church (USA), South Lyon. He received a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, as a student of Dr. Joyce Jones and Dr. O. Herbert Colvin. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as the final pupil of the late Prof. Robert Glasgow. Before beginning his doctoral work, Dr. Daniel earned dual masters degrees in organ and carillon performance from the same institution studying with Dr. Marilyn Mason and Prof. Margo Halsted.As a clinician/teacher, Dr. Daniel is regularly invited to teach and perform at summer courses and conventions sponsored by the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR). He has lectured at two congresses of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA). He currently serves on the Executive Boards of the Detroit AGO and Michigan’s AGEHR as well as the AGEHR Area V Board. Most notably, he was the Chair of the Steering Committee hosting the 2009 AGO Region V Convention in Detroit this past June. In 2005, the Association of Anglican Musicians voted him a member on the recommendation of his colleagues.
He has been the finalist or winner at numerous competitions: the winner of the Texas State Music Teacher’s Association Performance Competition in 2001, a National Finalist in the Music Teacher National Association Collegiate Artist Competition in 2002, and a Regional Finalist in the National Association of Negro Musicians Scholarship Competition in 2003.
Dr. Daniel made his professional debut in 2001 with concerts in France and Germany. Since then he has played recitals throughout Michigan and Texas, and has made appearances in California, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
